What Is a Command Board?
Also known as a fire command board, incident command board, or tactical worksheet, a command board is a visual tool used by the Incident Commander to organize objectives, assignments, accountability, and time-stamped benchmarks under ICS/NIMS.
Why departments use a command board
- Clarity under stress: one place for divisions, groups, and strategy.
- Accountability: PAR and CAN cadence, unit locations, and time marks stay visible.
- Consistency: checklists for high-risk, low-frequency events reduce omissions.
- Documentation: legible notes improve post-incident critique and training.
